Hi guys , I have some pictures of new Iranian jet fighter ( I call it F-5 with V tail ) Iranians call her SAEGHE ( THUNDER )
Please take look at her and tell me what do you think  :lol: :lol: :lol:

Look's like an F-5 from the front and from the back it look's like an F-18.Do you know any information about it's capabilities?

I agree with nick........it's  Baby F-18  or F-18 junior  :mrgreen:

The tail configuration reminds me the YF-17. :wink:

It must have been like what they left with after the revolution?  and trying to keep them updated.
So it seems they experimented with the F-5 airframe. Something like we do with what ifs :lol: :lol: :lol:
They did have F-14s if I remember right, I wonder what they will do to them :?: :?: :?: :lol: :lol:

Do the two taiifin rudders offer any advandages in comparison to one?

Hi Fred and thanks for sharing the photos.
It is hard to judge a new design just by how it looks. Personally I find it a nice looking aircraft, mostly because as other people said, it is a hybrid between two really beautiful aircraft. However, the question is what new features it has to offer compared to the good old F-5E. In other words, the discussion should be focused on the electronics. It doesn't seem to have a much larger radar cone, which means that probably it does not have one of the good radars that are out in the market right now (unless the Iranians have managed to produce a mini super-radar, which I doubt). This new aircraft of Iranian Air Force appeared in one of the local exercises and was seen carrying unguided rockets!!! If they wanted to impress their enemies, they should have loaded it with something more impressive. I don't think they spent all that money to upgrade the aircraft just to improve the rocket kill ratio of the F-5.

As a conclusion, modelwise, it is a good looking aircraft and a challenge for modellers who would like to include it in their collection, since it will probably take a long time until a model of the 'Thunder' will be available (if this ever happens). With a desert camo it will certainly look great. But as an aircraft, I believe that it is just a good attempt of the Iranians to get experience in upgrading aircraft and improving the capabilities of their aviation industry. The result is probably not the best one with the current international standards, but experience is always useful for future attempts.

She looks very good mostly because as other writers said, combines two beautiful aircraft F-5 and F-18 (or should I say YF-17). As fisherman said, iranias must concetrate on electronics, if they want to have leading rulles to their area. Personally i have seen photos of iranian F-14 loaded with Mim-23 missiles of the hawk anti-air system, taking the place where Aim-54 phoenix missiles were supposed to be. But i doubt if iranians have succesfully modified the missiles for air-to-air operations.

In a few words, Iran needs more time (and help) until they can build their own modern weapons.

I wonder if any of the Mig-29's are ex-Iraqi.  In the photo with the F-5 the fod covers are stil on the intakes,
