Θέμα: Hellenic Army Beaver

this is my first post here. i'm greek, but live in the U.S.
i won't really be able to post in greek, i hope english is ok.
in my many searches online for greek aircraft, i ran across
this site which has 2 pics of the army beaver from the 70's
and what has happened to that airframe since.

It was only yesterday that I posted about the Greek Army Beaver (http://www.modelclub.gr/forums/index.php?topic=3352.45), saying that I only had limited info about it... today you came to the rescue

and yes, Wildcat i can ready greek, barely, and it was mostly because i
saw your comment about the beaver, that i decided to post this
also, i understand that perhaps the air force had a beaver for a while.
perhaps it was the same one, and both services were evaluating the plane
during the 70's.
my guess is the HAF decided to then go with the Do.28D, instead, but i'm not
sure why the army didn't buy some beavers.

I've never heard of an Air Force Beaver If it's true it must have been the way you're saying...
If the pictures were taken on 15 October 1978, it was quite long before the delivery of the Dorniers (early 1984), that the HAF decided not to buy them...

he has it listed both in HAF inventory during 1951-1967, and in
the Stratos 1947-2002.
i've also seen the exact same list from IPMS, that a friend of mine
printed out for me, a couple of years back.

Nice to have you onboard nickypooh... Interesting photos, but I think we need a little more to clarify the mystery of that plane... Let's see if we can find that...

The IPMS list is a printout, but is dated 1996.
And again, the Hellenic Wings list seems to be identical to the IPMS list.
So the plot thickens.
Did the HAF fly a Beaver? Or was it just the Army?

After a few minutes of search in Google, I came up with that link:

If you take a look at DHC-2, he states that the was only one airplane, that flew during '74, and it belonged to the Greek Army...  :

i dont know anything about this plane but as i can see
the eagle on the left side of the beaver, on the above photo, is the insignia of the Greek Army Aviation.
The G.A.A. was established in 1956 with the help of the US Army Aviation so it probably was given from
HAF to the army sometime in the midle. Just guesing not sure ok?

My information about this a/c after a discussion with a retired Air Force pilot is that this aircraft was originally donated by the American CIA to the Greek CIA (KYΠ) as a personal transport for its commander (propably that's why it was never officially photographed during this period!).
Actually it was never used for this role and was operated by the Air Force as a utility a/c. It proved very unpopular between pilots (for some reason they thought it was dangerous and unreliable) so, it was rarely flown.
Late 60's was transfered to the army.

At least 2 version of beaver can be found in 1/48 scale. Miltary version in olive green - or dark green? -  camouflage and civilian floatplane, both provided by hobbycraft.

I would love to have the rare MBX 1/72 model. Last Saturday i was about to buy the airfix model, but i run out of money

And to support the notorius greek model market , i believe that a 1/48 hobbycraft model can be found at Mr.Kalfakis Shop, located at Ippokratoys str. city of Athens,Greece, at the lower shelve on the left next to esci models
