I wonder if the judges at the IPMS show will feel the same as you... It would be awesome if it wins it's class.

Every model in the contest is judged on it's own without comparison
with the others. If it's well made - according to several standards -
you have many possibilities to get your prize.

I've been sick the last couple of days. I'm not going to be ready for the show next week. But I will be finishing it very soon... as soon as I'm better that is. Good luck to everyone else.

Oups so plans changed. Maybe it's better to take your time finishing this bird and every detail is taken care of properly.

Since I missed the show due to illness and the pressure was off to hurry up and finish, I took a step back from the Bus to work on the touch sensitive on switch that will be on the base.

I decided to use some T4 Billet Aluminum I had. It was doing nothing sitting around for 8 years so it was sacrificed.


Notching out the lip before cutting it off.


Lip and cup... next is to drill the holes for the screws.


The logo parts laid out on 4mm plate aluminum.


After carefully cutting them out and spending hours filing and sanding them by hand.


Once the basic shape was good, I had to bevel all the pieces... looking better...


I got the acrylic, cut and sanded a round piece and bonded the aluminum logo pieces to it. Then I sanded the backside of the acrylic and put it into the cup.


The top part of the on switch is now done. Now I have to work on the back side of this that will have the printed circuit boards and necessary circuits to make it all work. Once done, touching any part of the logo, not the ring, will trigger it on for a period of time then shut off. This logo will light up along with triggering the Bus to light up.

Thanks...  Well, I wouldn't exactly say it's just to decorate the base, but yea, it's going to decorate the base. Someone on another forum thought it was a stand-alone item that I was going to display instead of just the on-switch for my model.

The logo switch is "done" and works as per it's design... Although it's bright enough to use as a flashlight with the 14 3mm LED's.

It's been a while since I updated my Bus build, but I had an issue with some electronics that consumed me until I figured it out.

I've been making stand-alone versions of the Touch-sensitve ON switch, like the one for my Bus build for customers. I made them larger (4.5" instead of 3.5"), upgraded the circuit boards, same billet aluminum construction, made them work off a 9v battery and the on time can be adjusted by adding more capacitors in the expandable capacitor bank i have in the bottom of the base. Then I embedded all this in a wooden base. They have an extra wire that can be connected to something (for example a model with lights) to trigger it ON as well. Not necessary to connect it, but the option is there.

I also pack them in a padded wooden box that is for both shipping and storage/display.

I made both SHIELD and HYDRA versions.... here they are...
